Pima Air and Space Museum holds one of the world’s largest collection of aircraft. The largest privately funded, nongovernmental museum has a variety of commercial, private and military aircraft on display. Featuring over 300 aircraft on approximately 80 acres of land, experience the surface of Mars to the modern beginnings of the Wright Brothers’ all in this one amazing location.
Unlike most museums, Pima Air & Space Museum is pet friendly and peeks the interests of all age groups. Be sure to schedule a half day at least. With so much to see, you will want to hang around to view it all. Get a first hand look at the restoration process, tour the “Boneyard”/AMARG bus and walk through the various hangars including two WWII hangars and the Space Gallery. The history found within each exhibit is like no other. Reaching deep into the past, the history becomes life-like and gives you a glimpse into the past like you have never seen before.
Hop on the tram and get a riding tour of the full 80 acres. If you prefer a walking tour, there are a couple to choose from. The docents are not only extremely knowledgable but most of them even flew a few of the aircraft themselves in WWII.
The children’s area doesn’t fall short of fascinating. What’s not to love about an old cockpit with switches and buttons galore?! Go to the Pima Air & Space Museum website to see the special kids’ activities they have each weekend.
